Manitoba Marathon’s founder passes away

“Manitoba Marathon lost a hero on Saturday evening, when our Founding Father, John Robertson, passed away. Thirty six years ago, following a fire at the Manitoba Home for Mentally Retarded, as it was known then, John had a dream and the vision to gather his friends and create an event that would raise money that would allow people living with an intellectual disability to live in their own homes in our community.  Because of the efforts and passion of John, Manitoba Marathon has been very successful in supporting that dream. He was a hero and he will always be our hero.  Our condolences to his wife, Betty, and to his family and friends. Our world became a better place when John saw a need and took the steps necessary to address that need. Rest in peace, John, we will continue in your footsteps.” – Shirley Lumb, Executive Director
