Call for new board members
The Manitoba Marathon is seeking community leaders to join our Board of Directors in 2018. The volunteer board provides leadership to the Marathon in the areas of organizational direction, policy, strategic planning and fiduciary accountability. We aim to attract skilled and committed individuals to help the Marathon fulfill its mandate.
Founded in 1979, the Manitoba Marathon is the fifth largest event of its kind in Canada, and includes a full marathon, half marathon, relay, 10K run and the super run. A community event, on race day the Marathon brings out more than 15,000 participants and volunteers of all ages. Over the years the Marathon has raised more than $6 million to support projects for people who live with an intellectual disability. Our ideal candidate will:
- be passionate about amateur, community-based sporting events
- be passionate about supporting projects for people living with an intellectual disability
- possess a track record of community leadership and active participation
- have prior board level experience with a non-profit organization
- possess skills and experience in one of the following areas: marketing & sponsorship, community engagement, finance, legal, and governance.
The board meets once a month and each board member is asked to serve on at least one standing committee, which may include, but is not limited to Finance and Audit, Sponsorship, Allocations, Nominations and Governance, Technical, and Marketing. Board terms are 3 years, renewable once.
